The Netherlands is switching over to a new ticket for public transport: the OV-chipkaart (in English: the Smart Card for public transport, or PT Smart Card). Soon you can use this to travel everywhere in the Netherlands by train, bus, tram and metro. The card will be introduced progressively over the coming period. And in 2009 you will only be able to use the OV-chipkaart to pay for public transport.
But for now you can only use it in Amsterdam and Rotterdam in bus, tram and metro. And for now it's still possible to use the old "strippenkaart".
